Image Processing Software, Inc. (IPS) was founded in 1981. IPS developed the first scientific word processor (ProofWriter), that allowed the user to view Greek and other scientific characters on the screen before the days of Windows. ProofWriter was used by hundreds of colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. IPS developed SurfaceMapper and OrthoMapper in the 1990's. IPS-Match has been under development since 2006.
The principal architect of both OrthoMapper and IPS-Match is Dr. Frank L. Scarpace. He received his Ph.D. in Physics, then moved into teaching and research in Mapping Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He taught all of the advanced courses in Remote Sensing and Digital Photogrammetry for 34 years at UW-Madison. His research interests have been in algorithm development and this is reflected in the products marketed by IPS. Dr. Scarpace is an ASPRS Fellow and continues his interests in teaching by offering short courses and webinars for ASPRS.
